तच् छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य कर्णो राजानम् अब्रवीत् ॥
सूक्तं सुशर्मणा वाक्यं प्राप्तकालं हितं च नः ॥
तस्मात् क्षिप्रं विनिर्यामो योजयित्वा वरूथिनीम् ॥
विभज्य चाप्य् अनीकानि यथा वा मन्यसे ऽनघ ॥
प्रज्ञावान् कुरुवृद्धो ऽयं सर्वेषां नः पितामहः ॥
आचार्यश् च तथा द्रोणः कृपः शारद्वतस् तथा ॥
मन्यन्ते ते यथा सर्वे तथा यात्रा विधीयताम् ॥
संमन्त्र्य चाशु गच्छामः साधनार्थं महीपतेः ॥
किं च नः पाण्डवैः कार्यं हीनार्थबलपौरुषैः ॥
अत्यर्थं वा प्रनष्टास् ते प्राप्ता वापि यमक्षयम् ॥
यामो राजन्न् अनुद्विग्ना विराटविषयं वयम् ॥
आदास्यामो हि गास् तस्य विविधानि वसूनि च ॥
tac chrutvā vacanaṃ tasya karṇo rājānam abravīt ||
sūktaṃ suśarmaṇā vākyaṃ prāptakālaṃ hitaṃ ca naḥ ||
tasmāt kṣipraṃ viniryāmo yojayitvā varūthinīm ||
vibhajya cāpy anīkāni yathā vā manyase 'nagha ||
prajñāvān kuruvṛddho 'yaṃ sarveṣāṃ naḥ pitāmahaḥ ||
ācāryaś ca tathā droṇaḥ kṛpaḥ śāradvatas tathā ||
manyante te yathā sarve tathā yātrā vidhīyatām ||
saṃmantrya cāśu gacchāmaḥ sādhanārthaṃ mahīpateḥ ||
kiṃ ca naḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ kāryaṃ hīnārthabalapauruṣaiḥ ||
atyarthaṃ vā pranaṣṭās te prāptā vāpi yamakṣayam ||
yāmo rājann anudvignā virāṭaviṣayaṃ vayam ||
ādāsyāmo hi gās tasya vividhāni vasūni ca ||
Hearing his words, Karna said to the king: "Susharman has spoken well; his words are timely and serve us. Let us therefore march quickly, having arrayed the army and divided the troops — as you think best, blameless one. This wise elder of the Kurus, our common grandfather, and the teacher Drona, and Kripa, son of Sharadvan — let the campaign be arranged as they all judge best. Having taken counsel, let us go swiftly to accomplish the king's purpose. What business have we with the Pandavas, stripped of wealth, strength, and manhood? Most likely they have altogether perished, or come to the abode of Yama. Let us go, O king, without anxiety, into the land of Virata; we shall take his cows and his various possessions."
