वैशंपायन उवाच
ततः पार्थं स वैराटिर् अभ्यवादयद् अन्तिकात् ॥
अहं भूमिंजयो नाम नाम्नाहम् अपि चोत्तरः ॥
दिष्ट्या त्वां पार्थ पश्यामि स्वागतं ते धनंजय ॥
लोहिताक्ष महाबाहो नागराजकरोपम ॥
यद् अज्ञानाद् अवोचं त्वां क्षन्तुम् अर्हसि तन् मम ॥
यतस् त्वया कृतं पूर्वं विचित्रं कर्म दुष्करम् ॥
अतो भयं व्यतीतं मे प्रीतिश् च परमा त्वयि ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
tataḥ pārthaṃ sa vairāṭir abhyavādayad antikāt ||
ahaṃ bhūmiṃjayo nāma nāmnāham api cottaraḥ ||
diṣṭyā tvāṃ pārtha paśyāmi svāgataṃ te dhanaṃjaya ||
lohitākṣa mahābāho nāgarājakaropama ||
yad ajñānād avocaṃ tvāṃ kṣantum arhasi tan mama ||
yatas tvayā kṛtaṃ pūrvaṃ vicitraṃ karma duṣkaram ||
ato bhayaṃ vyatītaṃ me prītiś ca paramā tvayi ||
Vaishampayana said: "Then the son of Virata approached Partha and greeted him: 'I am named Bhumimjaya, and I am also named Uttara. Fortunately I see you, Partha; welcome to you, Dhananjaya, red-eyed, mighty-armed, with arms like the trunk of the king of serpents. Whatever I said to you out of ignorance, you should forgive me. Since you have performed before such varied and difficult deeds, my fear has passed, and supreme love for you has arisen in me.'"
