विराट उवाच
अहं खल्व् अपि संग्रामे शत्रूणां वशम् आगतः ॥
मोक्षितो भीमसेनेन गावश् च विजितास् तथा ॥
एतेषां बाहुवीर्येण यद् अस्माकं जयो मृधे ॥
वयं सर्वे सहामात्याः कुन्तीपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् ॥
प्रसादयामो भद्रं ते सानुजं पाण्डवर्षभम् ॥
यद् अस्माभिर् अजानद्भिः किं चिद् उक्तो नराधिपः ॥
क्षन्तुम् अर्हति तत् सर्वं धर्मात्मा ह्य् एष पाण्डवः ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
ततो विराटः परमाभितुष्टः; समेत्य राज्ञा समयं चकार ॥
राज्यं च सर्वं विससर्ज तस्मै; सदण्डकोशं सपुरं महात्मा ॥
पाण्डवांश् च ततः सर्वान् मत्स्यराजः प्रतापवान् ॥
धनंजयं पुरस्कृत्य दिष्ट्या दिष्ट्येति चाब्रवीत् ॥
समुपाघ्राय मूर्धानं संश्लिष्य च पुनः पुनः ॥
युधिष्ठिरं च भीमं च माद्रीपुत्रौ च पाण्डवौ ॥
नातृप्यद् दर्शने तेषां विराटो वाहिनीपतिः ॥
संप्रीयमाणो राजानं युधिष्ठिरम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥
दिष्ट्या भवन्तः संप्राप्ताः सर्वे कुशलिनो वनात् ॥
दिष्ट्या च पारितं कृच्छ्रम् अज्ञातं वै दुरात्मभिः ॥
इदं च राज्यं नः पार्था यच् चान्यद् वसु किं चन ॥
प्रतिगृह्णन्तु तत् सर्वं कौन्तेया अविशङ्कया ॥
उत्तरां प्रतिगृह्णातु सव्यसाची धनंजयः ॥
अयं ह्य् औपयिको भर्ता तस्याः पुरुषसत्तमः ॥
एवम् उक्तो धर्मराजः पार्थम् ऐक्षद् धनंजयम् ॥
ईक्षितश् चार्जुनो भ्रात्रा मत्स्यं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
प्रतिगृह्णाम्य् अहं राजन् स्नुषां दुहितरं तव ॥
युक्तश् चावां हि संबन्धो मत्स्यभारतसत्तमौ ॥

mokṣito bhīmasenena gāvaś ca vijitās tathā ||
eteṣāṃ bāhuvīryeṇa yad asmākaṃ jayo mṛdhe ||
vayaṃ sarve sahāmātyāḥ kuntīputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram ||
prasādayāmo bhadraṃ te sānujaṃ pāṇḍavarṣabham ||
yad asmābhir ajānadbhiḥ kiṃ cid ukto narādhipaḥ ||
kṣantum arhati tat sarvaṃ dharmātmā hy eṣa pāṇḍavaḥ ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
tato virāṭaḥ paramābhituṣṭaḥ; sametya rājñā samayaṃ cakāra ||
rājyaṃ ca sarvaṃ visasarja tasmai; sadaṇḍakośaṃ sapuraṃ mahātmā ||
pāṇḍavāṃś ca tataḥ sarvān matsyarājaḥ pratāpavān ||
dhanaṃjayaṃ puraskṛtya diṣṭyā diṣṭyeti cābravīt ||
samupāghrāya mūrdhānaṃ saṃśliṣya ca punaḥ punaḥ ||
yudhiṣṭhiraṃ ca bhīmaṃ ca mādrīputrau ca pāṇḍavau ||
nātṛpyad darśane teṣāṃ virāṭo vāhinīpatiḥ ||
saṃprīyamāṇo rājānaṃ yudhiṣṭhiram athābravīt ||
diṣṭyā bhavantaḥ saṃprāptāḥ sarve kuśalino vanāt ||
diṣṭyā ca pāritaṃ kṛcchram ajñātaṃ vai durātmabhiḥ ||
idaṃ ca rājyaṃ naḥ pārthā yac cānyad vasu kiṃ cana ||
pratigṛhṇantu tat sarvaṃ kaunteyā aviśaṅkayā ||
uttarāṃ pratigṛhṇātu savyasācī dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
ayaṃ hy aupayiko bhartā tasyāḥ puruṣasattamaḥ ||
evam ukto dharmarājaḥ pārtham aikṣad dhanaṃjayam ||
īkṣitaś cārjuno bhrātrā matsyaṃ vacanam abravīt ||
pratigṛhṇāmy ahaṃ rājan snuṣāṃ duhitaraṃ tava ||
yuktaś cāvāṃ hi saṃbandho matsyabhāratasattamau ||
Virata said: 'I myself fell into the power of the enemy in battle and was freed by Bhimasena; the cows too were recovered. Victory in battle came to us through the strength of these heroes' arms. All of us, together with our counselors, beg to conciliate Yudhishthira, son of Kunti, the foremost of the Pandavas, with his younger brothers. Whatever we may have said to you unknowingly, O lord of men, may he forgive all of it — this Pandava is a righteous soul.' Then Virata, exceedingly delighted, met with the king and made a pact; the magnanimous king gave over to him the whole kingdom, together with the city, the treasury, and the power to punish. The mighty king of the Matsyas, placing Dhananjaya at the fore, said to all the Pandavas: 'Fortunate indeed! Fortunate indeed!' He smelled their heads and embraced Yudhishthira, Bhima, and the two sons of Madri again and again; Virata, lord of the army, could not have his fill of the sight of them. Rejoicing, he said to King Yudhishthira: 'Fortunately, all of you have come safely out of the forest. Fortunately, you endured hardship unrecognized by the wicked. This kingdom of ours is yours, O Parthas, and whatever other wealth there is: let the sons of Kunti accept all of it without hesitation. Let Savyasachin Dhananjaya accept Uttara; he is the best of men and a fitting husband for her.' Hearing this, the Dharmaraja looked at Partha, Dhananjaya. Seeing his brother's glance, Arjuna spoke this word to the king of the Matsyas: 'I accept your daughter, O king, as a daughter-in-law. Between us, the best of the Matsyas and the Bharatas, such a bond is fitting.'
