ऊचुश् च सर्वे देवेशं विष्णुं वृत्रभयार्दिताः ॥
त्वया लोकास् त्रयः क्रान्तास् त्रिभिर् विक्रमणैः प्रभो ॥
अमृतं चाहृतं विष्णो दैत्याश् च निहता रणे ॥
बलिं बद्ध्वा महादैत्यं शक्रो देवाधिपः कृतः ॥
त्वं प्रभुः सर्वलोकानां त्वया सर्वम् इदं ततम् ॥
त्वं हि देव महादेवः सर्वलोकनमस्कृतः ॥
गतिर् भव त्वं देवानां सेन्द्राणाम् अमरोत्तम ॥
जगद् व्याप्तम् इदं सर्वं वृत्रेणासुरसूदन ॥
विष्णुर् उवाच
अवश्यं करणीयं मे भवतां हितम् उत्तमम् ॥
तस्माद् उपायं वक्ष्यामि यथासौ न भविष्यति ॥

tvayā lokās trayaḥ krāntās tribhir vikramaṇaiḥ prabho ||
amṛtaṃ cāhṛtaṃ viṣṇo daityāś ca nihatā raṇe ||
baliṃ baddhvā mahādaityaṃ śakro devādhipaḥ kṛtaḥ ||
tvaṃ prabhuḥ sarvalokānāṃ tvayā sarvam idaṃ tatam ||
tvaṃ hi deva mahādevaḥ sarvalokanamaskṛtaḥ ||
gatir bhava tvaṃ devānāṃ sendrāṇām amarottama ||
jagad vyāptam idaṃ sarvaṃ vṛtreṇāsurasūdana ||
viṣṇur uvāca
avaśyaṃ karaṇīyaṃ me bhavatāṃ hitam uttamam ||
tasmād upāyaṃ vakṣyāmi yathāsau na bhaviṣyati ||
And, tormented by fear of Vritra, they said to the Supreme Lord of the gods: 'In former times you covered the three worlds with three strides. You obtained the ambrosial food, O Vishnu, and destroyed the asuras in battle. You bound the great Asura Bali and raised Indra to the celestial throne. You are the lord of the gods, and this whole universe is pervaded by you. You are God, the mighty Deity, worshiped by all people. Be a refuge for all the gods together with Indra, O foremost of the gods, O slayer of asuras, pervaded by Vritra.' And Vishnu said: 'I am, without doubt, bound to do what is for your good. Therefore I shall tell you of a scheme by which he may be destroyed. Go together with the Rishis and Gandharvas to the place where Vritra, bearer of the universal form, dwells, and adopt toward him a policy of conciliation.
