इन्द्रं तुष्टाव चेन्द्राणी विश्रुतैः पूर्वकर्मभिः ॥
स्तूयमानस् ततो देवः शचीम् आह पुरंदरः ॥
किमर्थम् असि संप्राप्ता विज्ञातश् च कथं त्व् अहम् ॥
ततः सा कथयाम् आस नहुषस्य विचेष्टितम् ॥
इन्द्रत्वं त्रिषु लोकेषु प्राप्य वीर्यमदान्वितः ॥
दर्पाविष्टश् च दुष्टात्मा माम् उवाच शतक्रतो ॥
उपतिष्ठ माम् इति क्रूरः कालं च कृतवान् मम ॥
यदि न त्रास्यसि विभो करिष्यति स मां वशे ॥
एतेन चाहं संतप्ता प्राप्ता शक्र तवान्तिकम् ॥
जहि रौद्रं महाबाहो नहुषं पापनिश्चयम् ॥
प्रकाशयस्व चात्मानं दैत्यदानवसूदन ॥
तेजः समाप्नुहि विभो देवराज्यं प्रशाधि च ॥

yadi na trāsyasi vibho kariṣyati sa māṃ vaśe ||
etena cāhaṃ saṃtaptā prāptā śakra tavāntikam ||
jahi raudraṃ mahābāho nahuṣaṃ pāpaniścayam ||
prakāśayasva cātmānaṃ daityadānavasūdana ||
tejaḥ samāpnuhi vibho devarājyaṃ praśādhi ca ||
And thus praised, the divine Purandara said to Shachi: 'For what purpose have you come? And how was I recognized?' Then the goddess told him of Nahusha's doings. She said: 'O performer of a hundred sacrifices, having seized the sovereignty of the three worlds, he grew mighty, arrogant, and wicked of soul, and he, Shatakratu, commanded me to come to him; and the cruel wretch even fixed a time for me. If you do not protect me, O lord, he will bring me under his power. For this reason, O Indra, I have come to you in distress. O mighty-armed one, slay the terrible, wicked Nahusha! Reveal yourself, O destroyer of Daityas and Danavas; regain your splendor, O lord, and rule the kingdom of the gods.'
