सनत्सुजात उवाच
यत् तच् छुक्रं महज् ज्योतिर् दीप्यमानं महद् यशः ॥
तद् वै देवा उपासन्ते यस्माद् अर्को विराजते ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
शुक्राद् ब्रह्म प्रभवति ब्रह्म शुक्रेण वर्धते ॥
तच् छुक्रं ज्योतिषां मध्ये ऽतप्तं तपति तापनम् ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
आपो ऽथ अद्भ्यः सलिलस्य मध्ये; उभौ देवौ शिश्रियाते ऽन्तरिक्षे ॥
स सध्रीचीः स विषूचीर् वसाना; उभे बिभर्ति पृथिवीं दिवं च ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
उभौ च देवौ पृथिवीं दिवं च; दिशश् च शुक्रं भुवनं बिभर्ति ॥
तस्माद् दिशः सरितश् च स्रवन्ति; तस्मात् समुद्रा विहिता महान्तः ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
चक्रे रथस्य तिष्ठन्तं ध्रुवस्याव्ययकर्मणः ॥
केतुमन्तं वहन्त्य् अश्वास् तं दिव्यम् अजरं दिवि ॥
योगिनस् तं प्रपश्यन्ति भगवन्तं सनातनम् ॥
sanatsujāta uvāca
yat tac chukraṃ mahaj jyotir dīpyamānaṃ mahad yaśaḥ ||
tad vai devā upāsante yasmād arko virājate ||
yoginas taṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||
śukrād brahma prabhavati brahma śukreṇa vardhate ||
tac chukraṃ jyotiṣāṃ madhye 'taptaṃ tapati tāpanam ||
yoginas taṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||
āpo 'tha adbhyaḥ salilasya madhye; ubhau devau śiśriyāte 'ntarikṣe ||
sa sadhrīcīḥ sa viṣūcīr vasānā; ubhe bibharti pṛthivīṃ divaṃ ca ||
yoginas taṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||
ubhau ca devau pṛthivīṃ divaṃ ca; diśaś ca śukraṃ bhuvanaṃ bibharti ||
tasmād diśaḥ saritaś ca sravanti; tasmāt samudrā vihitā mahāntaḥ ||
yoginas taṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||
cakre rathasya tiṣṭhantaṃ dhruvasyāvyayakarmaṇaḥ ||
ketumantaṃ vahanty aśvās taṃ divyam ajaraṃ divi ||
yoginas taṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||
Sanatsujāta said: 'Sorrow, anger, greed, lust, ignorance, sloth, malice, self-conceit, constant striving after gain, attachment, envy, and evil speech — these twelve, O king, are grave faults that ruin human lives. Each of them, O king, waits for the chance to seize hold of mankind. Overpowered by them, people lose their reason and commit sinful deeds. The fierce, the garrulous, the wrathful, and the boastful — these six evil dispositions, on acquiring wealth, are unable to treat others with courtesy. He who counts sensual gratification as the aim of life, he who is self-satisfied, he who boasts of his gifts, he who never spends, he who is weak of mind, he who is given to vanity, and he who hates his own wife — these seven are reckoned wicked men of sinful habits.'
