Vidura: By attentiveness and personal courage I set his heart at ease. This weapon is still with me, and my monthly vow is not yet ended. Therefore I am fully capable (of winning victory). Let the responsibility be mine. Having gained the favor of this sage, I shall in the blink of an eye slay the Panchalas, the Karushas, the Matsyas, and the sons of Pritha together with their sons and grandsons, and I shall grant you the many regions won by my weapon. Let the Grandsire, Drona, and all the kings remain with you. I shall slay the sons of Pritha as they advance together with the chief warriors of my army.

This passage (5.62.6–10) continues the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort toward peace unfolds even as war draws inevitably near. Key theme: Vidura. Here dharma reveals itself through speech, the choice of envoys, fidelity to one's word, and the responsibility of kings for the consequences of their decisions.
