संजय उवाच
अर्जुनो वासुदेवश् च धन्विनौ परमार्चितौ ॥
कामाद् अन्यत्र संभूतौ सर्वाभावाय संमितौ ॥
द्याम् अन्तरं समास्थाय यथायुक्तं मनस्विनः ॥
चक्रं तद् वासुदेवस्य मायया वर्तते विभो ॥
सापह्नवं पाण्डवेषु पाण्डवानां सुसंमतम् ॥
सारासारबलं ज्ञात्वा तत् समासेन मे शृणु ॥
नरकं शम्बरं चैव कंसं चैद्यं च माधवः ॥
जितवान् घोरसंकाशान् क्रीडन्न् इव जनार्दनः ॥
पृथिवीं चान्तरिक्षं च द्यां चैव पुरुषोत्तमः ॥
मनसैव विशिष्टात्मा नयत्य् आत्मवशं वशी ॥

sārāsārabalaṃ jñātvā tat samāsena me śṛṇu ||
narakaṃ śambaraṃ caiva kaṃsaṃ caidyaṃ ca mādhavaḥ ||
jitavān ghorasaṃkāśān krīḍann iva janārdanaḥ ||
pṛthivīṃ cāntarikṣaṃ ca dyāṃ caiva puruṣottamaḥ ||
manasaiva viśiṣṭātmā nayaty ātmavaśaṃ vaśī ||
Vaishampayana said: 'Having thus addressed Suyodhana, the blessed and wise Dhritarashtra again questioned Sanjaya, saying: "Tell me, O Sanjaya, what you have not yet told — namely, what Arjuna said to you after Vasudeva's speech had ended, for great is my longing to hear it." Sanjaya said: "Having heard the words spoken by Vasudeva, the irresistible Dhananjaya, son of Kunti, when the occasion arose, spoke these words in the hearing of Vasudeva: 'O Sanjaya, our grandsire, the son of Shantanu, and Dhritarashtra, and Drona, and Kripa, and Karna, and the king of the Vahlikas, and the son of Drona, and Somadatta, and Shakuni, son of Subala; and Duhshasana, and Shala, and Purumitra, and Vivimshati; Vikarna, and Chitrasena, and King Jayatsena, and Vinda and Anuvinda, the two lords of Avanti, Bhurishravas, King Bhagadatta, King Jarasandha, and the other rulers of the earth gathered there to fight for the sake of the Kauravas — all stand on the brink of death.'"
