Translation

Held back by you, your fearsome brothers, bound likewise by the ties of virtue, did nothing to avenge this wrong; and after you were exiled to the forest, Duryodhana, having spoken such cruel words and others besides, boasted of it among his kinsmen. Knowing you to be innocent, those assembled sat in silence in the hall and wept with stifled voices. The assembled kings, together with the brahmanas, gave him no applause for this. Indeed, all the courtiers present there condemned him. For a man of noble birth, O crusher of foes, even censure is death. Death is many times better than a life spent in sin. Even then, O king, he as good as died, when, censured by all the kings of the earth, he felt no shame! One whose character is so vile can easily be destroyed, like a rootless tree standing upright on a single weak root. The sinful and malicious Duryodhana deserves death at everyone's hands, even as one deserves death at a serpent's. So slay him, O slayer of foes, and do not hesitate in the least. It befits you, O sinless one, and I too approve of it, that you render due honor to your father Dhritarashtra, and to Bhishma as well. Going there, I shall dispel the doubts of all those who have not yet made up their minds about Duryodhana's malice.
