मांसशोणितवर्षं च वृष्टं देवेन माधव ॥
तथा गन्धर्वनगरं भानुमन्तम् उपस्थितम् ॥
सप्राकारं सपरिखं सवप्रं चारुतोरणम् ॥
कृष्णश् च परिघस् तत्र भानुम् आवृत्य तिष्ठति ॥
उदयास्तमये संध्ये वेदयानो महद् भयम् ॥
एका सृग् वाशते घोरं तत् पराभवलक्षणम् ॥
कृष्णग्रीवाश् च शकुना लम्बमाना भयानकाः ॥
संध्याम् अभिमुखा यान्ति तत् पराभवलक्षणम् ॥
ब्राह्मणान् प्रथमं द्वेष्टि गुरूंश् च मधुसूदन ॥
भृत्यान् भक्तिमतश् चापि तत् पराभवलक्षणम् ॥
पूर्वा दिग् लोहिताकारा शस्त्रवर्णा च दक्षिणा ॥
आमपात्रप्रतीकाशा पश्चिमा मधुसूदन ॥

brāhmaṇān prathamaṃ dveṣṭi gurūṃś ca madhusūdana ||
bhṛtyān bhaktimataś cāpi tat parābhavalakṣaṇam ||
pūrvā dig lohitākārā śastravarṇā ca dakṣiṇā ||
āmapātrapratīkāśā paścimā madhusūdana ||
"O Madhava, a rain of flesh and blood has poured from the sky, and a radiant city of the gandharvas has appeared, with a wall, a moat, a rampart, and beautiful gates. There a black ring covers the sun and stands at sunrise and sunset, at twilight, foretelling great fear. A single she-jackal howls dreadfully: this is a sign of defeat. Frightful black-necked birds, hovering, fly toward the twilight: this is a sign of defeat. Men have begun, above all, to hate brahmins, teachers, and loyal servants: this is a sign of defeat. The east has turned the color of blood, the south the color of weapons, and the west, O Madhusudana, resembles a raw earthen vessel."
