मयापि हि महाबाहो त्वत्प्रियार्थम् अरिंदम ॥
कृतो यत्नो महांस् तत्र शमः स्याद् इति भारत ॥
धर्मस्य गतम् आनृण्यं न स्म वाच्या विवक्षताम् ॥
कृतार्थं मन्यते बालः सो ऽऽत्मानम् अविचक्षणः ॥
धार्तराष्ट्रो बलस्थं च मन्यते ऽऽत्मानम् आतुरः ॥
युज्यतां वाहिनी साधु वधसाध्या हि ते मताः ॥
न धार्तराष्ट्राः शक्ष्यन्ति स्थातुं दृष्ट्वा धनंजयम् ॥
भीमसेनं च संक्रुद्धं यमौ चापि यमोपमौ ॥
युयुधानद्वितीयं च धृष्टद्युम्नम् अमर्षणम् ॥
अभिमन्युं द्रौपदेयान् विराटद्रुपदाव् अपि ॥
अक्षौहिणीपतींश् चान्यान् नरेन्द्रान् दृढविक्रमान् ॥

yujyatāṃ vāhinī sādhu vadhasādhyā hi te matāḥ ||
na dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ śakṣyanti sthātuṃ dṛṣṭvā dhanaṃjayam ||
bhīmasenaṃ ca saṃkruddhaṃ yamau cāpi yamopamau ||
yuyudhānadvitīyaṃ ca dhṛṣṭadyumnam amarṣaṇam ||
abhimanyuṃ draupadeyān virāṭadrupadāv api ||
akṣauhiṇīpatīṃś cānyān narendrān dṛḍhavikramān ||
"I too, O mighty-armed one, O tamer of foes, made a great effort for your sake, that peace might come, O Bharata. The duty owed to dharma has been fulfilled; those wishing to accuse us will have no grounds to speak. That foolish, unwise son of Dhritarashtra considers himself to have attained his goal and, sick with pride, thinks himself strong in force. Let the army be properly arrayed; they, in my opinion, can only be dealt with by their destruction. The sons of Dhritarashtra will not be able to stand their ground when they see Dhananjaya, furious Bhimasena, the twins who are like Yama, unyielding Dhrishtadyumna with Yuyudhana beside him, Abhimanyu, the sons of Draupadi, Virata and Drupada, and the other kings, lords of akshauhinis, unwavering in their valor."

The Pandavas choose their military leader not out of pride but through counsel, experience, and trust in Krishna; their advance toward Kurukshetra is then described as orderly, sacrificially prepared, and surrounded by allies. Dharma shows itself here not as a refusal to act but as the right ordering of an inevitable duty.
