संजय उवाच
उलूकस् त्व् अर्जुनं भूयो यथोक्तं वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥
आशीविषम् इव क्रुद्धं तुदन् वाक्यशलाकया ॥
तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा रुषिताः पाण्डवा भृशम् ॥
प्राग् एव भृशसंक्रुद्धाः कैतव्येन प्रधर्षिताः ॥
नासनेष्व् अवतिष्ठन्त बाहूंश् चैव विचिक्षिपुः ॥
आशीविषा इव क्रुद्धा वीक्षां चक्रुः परस्परम् ॥
अवाक्शिरा भीमसेनः समुदैक्षत केशवम् ॥
नेत्राभ्यां लोहितान्ताभ्याम् आशीविष इव श्वसन् ॥
आर्तं वातात्मजं दृष्ट्वा क्रोधेनाभिहतं भृशम् ॥
उत्स्मयन्न् इव दाशार्हः कैतव्यं प्रत्यभाषत ॥

āśīviṣam iva kruddhaṃ tudan vākyaśalākayā ||
tasya tad vacanaṃ śrutvā ruṣitāḥ pāṇḍavā bhṛśam ||
prāg eva bhṛśasaṃkruddhāḥ kaitavyena pradharṣitāḥ ||
nāsaneṣv avatiṣṭhanta bāhūṃś caiva vicikṣipuḥ ||
āśīviṣā iva kruddhā vīkṣāṃ cakruḥ parasparam ||
avākśirā bhīmasenaḥ samudaikṣata keśavam ||
netrābhyāṃ lohitāntābhyām āśīviṣa iva śvasan ||
ārtaṃ vātātmajaṃ dṛṣṭvā krodhenābhihataṃ bhṛśam ||
utsmayann iva dāśārhaḥ kaitavyaṃ pratyabhāṣata ||
Sanjaya said: Uluka again delivered to Arjuna the message that had been given him, as though pricking an enraged serpent with the arrow of his words. Hearing this speech, the Pandavas grew greatly enraged -- they had already been furious, and now they were insulted by the son of Kaitava. They could not remain seated, waving their arms and, like enraged venomous serpents, glaring at one another. Bhimasena, his head bowed, fixed his red-rimmed eyes on Keshava, breathing heavily like a venomous serpent. Seeing the son of Vayu tormented and struck hard by anger, the Dasharha, as if smiling, answered the son of Kaitava.

After Uluka's insults, the Pandavas' anger becomes almost physical -- they are described as serpents poised to strike. But it is Krishna who answers, and his speech keeps that anger within the channel of dharma: he does not argue with the challenge but declares its precise consequence. Victory will not be won through empty wrangling but through the fulfillment of a resolve already ripened.
