Translation

Sanjaya said: "Having seen the army of the Pandavas arrayed, King Duryodhana approached his teacher and said: 'O teacher, behold this great army of the sons of Pandu, arrayed by your wise disciple, the son of Drupada. Here are heroes, great archers, equal in battle to Bhima and Arjuna: Yuyudhana, Virata, the great chariot-warrior Drupada, Dhrishtaketu, Chekitana, the valiant king of Kashi, Purujit, Kuntibhoja, Shaibya, best of men, the brave Yudhamanyu, the mighty Uttamaujas, Saubhadra and the sons of Draupadi — all of them great chariot-warriors. But know also our own distinguished leaders, O best of the twice-born; I shall name to you the commanders of my army for your information. These are you yourself, Bhishma, Karna, Kripa, victorious in battle, Ashvatthama, Vikarna, and the son of Somadatta, as well as many other heroes ready to give up their lives for my sake, armed with various weapons and skilled in war. Our force, protected by Bhishma, is unlimited, while their force, protected by Bhima, is limited. Therefore let all of you, stationed at every point according to your assignment, guard Bhishma alone.'"
