"But a man who takes delight in the self alone, who is satisfied in the self, who is content only in the self, no longer has any obligatory duty. For him there is no purpose in what is done, and no loss in what is left undone; among all beings he depends on none for any advantage. Therefore always perform the action that must be done, without attachment: acting without attachment, a man attains the highest. It was through action alone that Janaka and others attained perfection; you too should act for the sake of preserving the world. Whatever the best man does, the rest of the people do as well; whatever standard he sets, the world follows. I, O son of Pritha, have no obligatory duty in the three worlds, nothing unattained that I need to attain, and yet I remain engaged in action. For if I did not act tirelessly at all times, men would follow my path in every way, O Arjuna. These worlds would fall into ruin if I did not act; I would become the cause of confusion and destroy these creatures."

Even one who is inwardly free may act for the sake of lokasamgraha — the preservation of the world. Krishna shows this by his own example: fullness has no need to act for itself, yet it acts for the good of others.
