Translation

'O best of the Bharatas, I shall tell thee of the time at which yogis, having departed, reach non-return, and of the time at which they return. Fire, light, day, the bright fortnight, and the six months of the sun's northward course — departing by this path, the knowers of Brahman reach Brahman. Smoke, night, the dark fortnight, and the six months of the sun's southward course — reaching by this path the light of the moon, the yogi returns. These two paths of the world, the bright and the dark, are held to be eternal: by one a man goes to non-return, by the other he returns again. Knowing these two paths, O son of Pritha, no yogi is ever deluded; therefore at all times be joined with yoga, O Arjuna. Knowing this, the yogi surpasses whatever holy fruit is prescribed in the Vedas, in sacrifices, in austerities, and in gifts, and attains the supreme, primeval abode.'
