द्वाव् इमौ पुरुषौ लोके क्षरश् चाक्षर एव च ॥
क्षरः सर्वाणि भूतानि कूटस्थो ऽक्षर उच्यते ॥
उत्तमः पुरुषस् त्व् अन्यः परमात्मेत्य् उदाहृतः ॥
यो लोकत्रयम् आविश्य बिभर्त्य् अव्यय ईश्वरः ॥
यस्मात् क्षरम् अतीतो ऽहम् अक्षराद् अपि चोत्तमः ॥
अतो ऽस्मि लोके वेदे च प्रथितः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥
यो माम् एवम् असंमूढो जानाति पुरुषोत्तमम् ॥
स सर्वविद् भजति मां सर्वभावेन भारत ॥
इति गुह्यतमं शास्त्रम् इदम् उक्तं मयानघ ॥
एतद् बुद्ध्वा बुद्धिमान् स्यात् कृतकृत्यश् च भारत ॥
dvāv imau puruṣau loke kṣaraś cākṣara eva ca ||
kṣaraḥ sarvāṇi bhūtāni kūṭastho 'kṣara ucyate ||
uttamaḥ puruṣas tv anyaḥ paramātmety udāhṛtaḥ ||
yo lokatrayam āviśya bibharty avyaya īśvaraḥ ||
yasmāt kṣaram atīto 'ham akṣarād api cottamaḥ ||
ato 'smi loke vede ca prathitaḥ puruṣottamaḥ ||
yo mām evam asaṃmūḍho jānāti puruṣottamam ||
sa sarvavid bhajati māṃ sarvabhāvena bhārata ||
iti guhyatamaṃ śāstram idam uktaṃ mayānagha ||
etad buddhvā buddhimān syāt kṛtakṛtyaś ca bhārata ||
"There are two purushas in this world: the perishable and the imperishable. The perishable is all beings; the unchanging is called the imperishable. But there is yet another, the highest Purusha, called Paramatma: entering the three worlds, He sustains them as the imperishable Lord. Since I transcend the perishable and surpass even the imperishable, I am renowned in the world and in the Veda as Purushottama, the Supreme Person. Whoever, undeluded, knows Me thus as Purushottama, knows all and worships Me with his whole being, O Bharata. Thus have I spoken this most secret teaching, O sinless one. Understanding it, a man becomes wise and has accomplished all that is to be done, O Bharata."

Krishna closes the chapter by declaring His position beyond both kshara and akshara. Purushottama is not merely a philosophical category: one who knows Him so serves Him with the whole of his being and reaches the fullness of what a human life is for.
