स विद्धो व्यथितश् चैव मुहूर्तं कश्मलायुतः ॥
निषसाद रथोपस्थे ध्वजयष्टिम् उपाश्रितः ॥
प्रतिलभ्य ततः संज्ञां द्रोणपुत्रः प्रतापवान् ॥
वार्ष्णेयं समरे क्रुद्धो नाराचेन समर्दयत् ॥
शैनेयं स तु निर्भिद्य प्राविशद् धरणीतलम् ॥
वसन्तकाले बलवान् बिलं सर्पशिशुर् यथा ॥
ततो ऽपरेण भल्लेन माधवस्य ध्वजोत्तमम् ॥
चिच्छेद समरे द्रौणिः सिंहनादं ननाद च ॥
पुनश् चैनं शरैर् घोरैश् छादयाम् आस भारत ॥
निदाघान्ते महाराज यथा मेघो दिवाकरम् ॥
सात्यकिश् च महाराज शरजालं निहत्य तत् ॥
द्रौणिम् अभ्यपतत् तूर्णं शरजालैर् अनेकधा ॥
तापयाम् आस च द्रौणिं शैनेयः परवीरहा ॥
विमुक्तो मेघजालेन यथैव तपनस् तथा ॥
शराणां च सहस्रेण पुनर् एनं समुद्यतम् ॥
सात्यकिश् छादयाम् आस ननाद च महाबलः ॥
दृष्ट्वा पुत्रं तथा ग्रस्तं राहुणेव निशाकरम् ॥
अभ्यद्रवत शैनेयं भारद्वाजः प्रतापवान् ॥
विव्याध च पृषत्केन सुतीक्ष्णेन महामृधे ॥
परीप्सन् स्वसुतं राजन् वार्ष्णेयेनाभितापितम् ॥
सात्यकिस् तु रणे जित्वा गुरुपुत्रं महारथम् ॥
द्रोणं विव्याध विंशत्या सर्वपारशवैः शरैः ॥
तदन्तरम् अमेयात्मा कौन्तेयः श्वेतवाहनः ॥
अभ्यद्रवद् रणे क्रुद्धो द्रोणं प्रति महारथः ॥
ततो द्रोणश् च पार्थश् च समेयातां महामृधे ॥
यथा बुधश् च शुक्रश् च महाराज नभस्तले ॥

sātyakiś ca mahārāja śarajālaṃ nihatya tat ||
drauṇim abhyapatat tūrṇaṃ śarajālair anekadhā ||
tāpayām āsa ca drauṇiṃ śaineyaḥ paravīrahā ||
vimukto meghajālena yathaiva tapanas tathā ||
śarāṇāṃ ca sahasreṇa punar enaṃ samudyatam ||
sātyakiś chādayām āsa nanāda ca mahābalaḥ ||
dṛṣṭvā putraṃ tathā grastaṃ rāhuṇeva niśākaram ||
abhyadravata śaineyaṃ bhāradvājaḥ pratāpavān ||
vivyādha ca pṛṣatkena sutīkṣṇena mahāmṛdhe ||
parīpsan svasutaṃ rājan vārṣṇeyenābhitāpitam ||
sātyakis tu raṇe jitvā guruputraṃ mahāratham ||
droṇaṃ vivyādha viṃśatyā sarvapāraśavaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
tadantaram ameyātmā kaunteyaḥ śvetavāhanaḥ ||
abhyadravad raṇe kruddho droṇaṃ prati mahārathaḥ ||
tato droṇaś ca pārthaś ca sameyātāṃ mahāmṛdhe ||
yathā budhaś ca śukraś ca mahārāja nabhastale ||
Pierced and afflicted, Drauni fell for a moment into a stupor and sank down onto the platform of his chariot, leaning against the flagstaff. Then, regaining his senses, the mighty son of Drona, in anger, struck Varshneya-Satyaki with a naracha. Piercing Shaineya, this arrow sank into the earth, as a mighty young serpent sinks into its hole in spring. Then, with another broad-headed arrow, Drauni cut down in battle the finest banner of Madhava-Satyaki and let out a lion's roar. Once more he showered him with terrible arrows, O Bharata, as a cloud covers the sun at the close of the hot season. But Satyaki, great king, having broken through this net of arrows, swiftly charged at Drauni with a multitude of arrows. Shaineya, slayer of enemy heroes, began to scorch Drauni, as the sun scorches once freed from a web of clouds. Satyaki again showered with a thousand arrows the one who was rising once more to battle, and the mighty warrior gave a great shout. Seeing his son thus seized, as the moon is seized by Rahu, the glorious Bharadvaja-Drona charged at Shaineya. Wishing to protect his own son, worn down by Varshneya, he pierced Satyaki in the great battle with a very sharp prishatka arrow, O king. But Satyaki, having overcome the maharatha, the teacher's son, in battle, pierced Drona with twenty arrows entirely of iron. Meanwhile the immeasurable son of Kunti, the white-horsed maharatha, in fury charged into battle against Drona. Then Drona and Partha came together in the great fight, great king, as Budha and Shukra meet in the vault of heaven."
