The boy is likened now to Vishnu, "the inconceivable," now to Skanda who crushes the asuras — the highest of divine images of the warrior. Alone he did what thousands could not: he crushed a three-part army. Thus it is shown that in a child of a great lineage a power acts that exceeds human measure. It is significant that precisely now, at the peak of his triumph, the tradition prepares the turn toward death — the highest glory precedes the fall. The verse teaches that there are deeds exceeding every human measure, through which a reflection of the divine shines; that the young one, acting alone, like Vishnu and Skanda, reaches the limit of valor; and that the tradition, having raised the boy to this height, will bring him down all the more grievously — for the more dazzling the triumph, the darker the shadow of the approaching calamity.
