यथा हि मे गुरोर् वाक्यं विशिष्टं द्विपदां वर ॥
तथा तवापि वचनं विशिष्टतरम् एव मे ॥
प्रिये हि तव वर्तेते भ्रातरौ कृष्णपाण्डवौ ॥
तयोः प्रिये स्थितं चैव विद्धि मां राजपुंगव ॥
तवाज्ञां शिरसा गृह्य पाण्डवार्थम् अहं प्रभो ॥
भित्त्वेदं दुर्भिदं सैन्यं प्रयास्ये नरसत्तम ॥

tathā tavāpi vacanaṃ viśiṣṭataram eva me ||
priye hi tava vartete bhrātarau kṛṣṇapāṇḍavau ||

bhittvedaṃ durbhidaṃ sainyaṃ prayāsye narasattama ||
"For as the word of my teacher is especially weighty to me, O best of bipeds, so too your word is weightier still to me. For in your love dwell the two brothers, Krishna and the Pandava, and know me as one who stands in their love, O bull among kings. Having taken your command upon my head, for the Pandava's sake, O lord, I shall break through this hard-to-pierce army and set forth, O best of men."

Satyaki honors the king's word above the teacher's: "tava vacanaṃ viśiṣṭataram," for in Yudhishthira's love dwell both Krishna and Arjuna, and in their love dwells he himself. It is significant that a chain of love binds every link together: in serving the king, he serves both Krishnas as well. The verse teaches that devotion is not divided but rises toward a single point: whoever truly loves those dear to another serves all by serving one, for love binds those who love into a single circle.
