सो ऽतिविद्धो बलवता पुत्रेण तव धन्विना ॥
अमर्षवशम् आपन्नस् तव पुत्रम् अपीडयत् ॥
पीडितं नृपतिं दृष्ट्वा तव पुत्रा महारथाः ॥
सात्वतं शरवर्षेण छादयाम् आसुर् अञ्जसा ॥
स छाद्यमानो बहुभिस् तव पुत्रैर् महारथैः ॥
एकैकं पञ्चभिर् विद्ध्वा पुनर् विव्याध सप्तभिः ॥
so 'tividdho balavatā putreṇa tava dhanvinā ||
amarṣavaśam āpannas tava putram apīḍayat ||
pīḍitaṃ nṛpatiṃ dṛṣṭvā tava putrā mahārathāḥ ||
sātvataṃ śaravarṣeṇa chādayām āsur añjasā ||
sa chādyamāno bahubhis tava putrair mahārathaiḥ ||
ekaikaṃ pañcabhir viddhvā punar vivyādha saptabhiḥ ||
He, sorely pierced by your mighty archer son, overcome by wrath, pressed your son hard. Seeing the king thus pressed, your sons, the great warriors, at once covered the Satvata with a shower of arrows. He, covered by your many great-warrior sons, pierced each one with five arrows, then again struck them with seven.

When Duryodhana is hard-pressed, his brothers instantly close ranks to defend him — blood ties hold firm even in wrongdoing. Yet Satyaki alone answers them all, "ekaikaṃ pañcabhiḥ." It is telling that the concord of many cannot overcome the one who stands for truth. The verse teaches that kinship joined to a wrongful cause is powerless against a single man upheld by dharma: the solidarity of the instigators only throws into relief the solitary strength of the righteous, whom no number can break.
