This roll-call of weapons and uprooted trees shows the primordial fury of a clash between titans: everything is pressed into service, from axes to whole trees. It is telling that the rakshasas fight not only with forged weapons but with living nature itself. The verse teaches that frenzy, carried to its limit, turns anything at hand into a weapon; and battle beyond all measure turns the peaceful trees of the earth into clubs — an image of how enmity defiles and corrupts even the innocent.
