The culmination of the churning reveals a supreme truth: all the treasures of the world arise from the ocean of the cosmic play, yet they belong to the Lord and to His devotees. It is telling that the goddess Shri (Lakshmi) and the jewel Kaustubha go straight to Narayana and come to rest upon His chest — for all beauty, wealth, and glory belong by nature to the Lord. The supreme gift, the amrita, is not won by force: the danavas seize the vessel, but the Lord Himself, in the form of Mohini, enchants them, and they, deluded by desire, willingly hand over the nectar. Thus scripture reveals the working of divine maya: those who are attached to the sensual and cry "this is mine!" the Lord easily deprives of the fruit through their own passion. Here are two lessons: first, that the nectar of immortality is not for the greedy and impious but for the devoted; second, that attachment to enjoyment (embodied in the danavas' captivation by the female form) blinds and destroys. The Lord, taking the amrita from the asuras by gentle deception rather than force, shows that He governs all things not by crude strength but by His own inconceivable will (maya), protecting the devoted and humbling the pride of the impious.
