Here the wondrous stirs in the listeners not idle but reverent curiosity. It is significant that the Pandavas are not content with the news but wish to learn it 'in detail': a marvelous act of providence must be heeded with care, not in passing. Here the proper disposition toward sacred narrative shows itself: it is heard with attention and the desire to comprehend, for in it the hand of higher powers is revealed. Thus the scripture shows that the wonders of the Lord and His servants deserve careful attention; and the Pandavas' question about the birth from fire opens the story in which the design of providence for the line of Drupada will unfold.
