कुन्तीमातर् यथा मे त्वं तथा राजा युधिष्ठिरः ॥

Arjuna's courtesy finds its answer in equal courtesy: "as you are to me, so is Yudhishthira." Affection shown without compulsion breeds affection freely given — the defeated pays tribute not as a vassal but as a friend. It is notable that this chapter of conquest closes not with submission out of fear but with alliance out of mutual regard. The verse teaches that gentleness begets gentleness, and power founded on love finds in its subjects not slaves but allies, ready to serve beyond what is required.
