पित्रा मात्रा च पुत्रस्य यद् वै कार्यं परं स्मृतम् ॥
प्राप्तस् त्वम् असि तत् तात पितृपैतामहं पदम् ॥
अधीतवान् कृती शास्त्रे लालितः सततं गृहे ॥
भ्रातृज्येष्ठः स्थितो राज्ये विन्दसे किं न शोभनम् ॥
पृथग्जनैर् अलभ्यं यद् भोजनाच्छादनं परम् ॥
तत् प्राप्तो ऽसि महाबाहो कस्माच् छोचसि पुत्रक ॥

pitrā mātrā ca putrasya yad vai kāryaṃ paraṃ smṛtam ||
prāptas tvam asi tat tāta pitṛpaitāmahaṃ padam ||
adhītavān kṛtī śāstre lālitaḥ satataṃ gṛhe ||
bhrātṛjyeṣṭhaḥ sthito rājye vindase kiṃ na śobhanam ||
pṛthagjanair alabhyaṃ yad bhojanācchādanaṃ param ||
tat prāpto 'si mahābāho kasmāc chocasi putraka ||

पृथग्-जनैर् अलभ्यं यद्pṛthag-janair alabhyaṃ yadwhat is unattainable by common people,
भोजन-आच्छादनं परम्bhojana-ācchādanaṃ paramthe finest food and clothing —
तत् प्राप्तो असि महाबाहोtat prāpto asi mahābāhothat you have obtained, O mighty-armed one;
कस्माच् छोचसि पुत्रकkasmāc chocasi putrakawhy then do you grieve, my son?"

Traducción

"What is regarded by father and mother as the highest gift to a son — that you have attained, dear one: the paternal-ancestral inheritance. Learned, skilled in the shastra, always cherished in the house, eldest among the brothers, established in the kingdom — what excellence do you not possess? The finest food and clothing, unattainable by common people, you have obtained, O mighty-armed one; why then do you grieve, my son?"
