युधिष्ठिर उवाच
अयं सहस्रसमितो वैयाघ्रः सुप्रवर्तितः ॥
सुचक्रोपस्करः श्रीमान् किङ्किणीजालमण्डितः ॥
संह्रादनो राजरथो य इहास्मान् उपावहत् ॥
जैत्रो रथवरः पुण्यो मेघसागरनिःस्वनः ॥
अष्टौ यं कुररच्छायाः सदश्वा राष्ट्रसंमताः ॥
वहन्ति नैषाम् उच्येत पदा भूमिम् उपस्पृशन् ॥
एतद् राजन् धनं मह्यं तेन दीव्याम्य् अहं त्वया ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
एतच् छ्रुत्वा व्यवसितो निकृतिं समुपाश्रितः ॥
जितम् इत्य् एव शकुनिर् युधिष्ठिरम् अभाषत ॥

etad rājan dhanaṃ mahyaṃ tena dīvyāmy ahaṃ tvayā ||

etac chrutvā vyavasito nikṛtiṃ samupāśritaḥ ||
jitam ity eva śakunir yudhiṣṭhiram abhāṣata ||

सद्-अश्वा राष्ट्र-संमताःsad-aśvā rāṣṭra-saṃmatāḥfine horses, honored in the realm,
वहन्ति न एषाम् उच्येतvahanti na eṣām ucyetadraw — one could not say of them
पदा भूमिम् उपस्पृशन्padā bhūmim upaspṛśanthat they touch the earth with their feet";
एतच् छ्रुत्वा व्यवसितोetac chrutvā vyavasitohearing that, resolved,

[Yudhishthira:] "This royal, victorious chariot of mine, Samhradana, worth a thousand, covered in tiger skin, excellently crafted, with fine wheels and fittings, splendid, hung with a network of little bells, thundering like a cloud and the ocean, that brought us here — drawn by eight fine horses the color of ospreys, honored throughout our realm, so swiftly that one could not say their feet touch the earth." Hearing this, Shakuni, resolved and having resorted to deceit, said to Yudhishthira only: "Won!"
