द्रौपद्य् उवाच
अत्राप्य् उदाहरन्तीमम् इतिहासं पुरातनम् ॥
प्रह्लादस्य च संवादं बलेर् वैरोचनस्य च ॥
असुरेन्द्रं महाप्राज्ञं धर्माणाम् आगतागमम् ॥
बलिः पप्रच्छ दैत्येन्द्रं प्रह्लादं पितरं पितुः ॥
क्षमा स्विच् छ्रेयसी तात उताहो तेज इत्य् उत ॥
एतन् मे संशयं तात यथावद् ब्रूहि पृच्छते ॥
श्रेयो यद् अत्र धर्मज्ञ ब्रूहि मे तद् असंशयम् ॥
करिष्यामि हि तत् सर्वं यथावद् अनुशासनम् ॥
तस्मै प्रोवाच तत् सर्वम् एवं पृष्टः पितामहः ॥
सर्वनिश्चयवित् प्राज्ञः संशयं परिपृच्छते ॥
प्रह्लाद उवाच
न श्रेयः सततं तेजो न नित्यं श्रेयसी क्षमा ॥
इति तात विजानीहि द्वयम् एतद् असंशयम् ॥

kṣamā svic chreyasī tāta utāho teja ity uta ||
etan me saṃśayaṃ tāta yathāvad brūhi pṛcchate ||
śreyo yad atra dharmajña brūhi me tad asaṃśayam ||
kariṣyāmi hi tat sarvaṃ yathāvad anuśāsanam ||
tasmai provāca tat sarvam evaṃ pṛṣṭaḥ pitāmahaḥ ||
sarvaniścayavit prājñaḥ saṃśayaṃ paripṛcchate ||
prahlāda uvāca
na śreyaḥ satataṃ tejo na nityaṃ śreyasī kṣamā ||
iti tāta vijānīhi dvayam etad asaṃśayam ||

Traducción

Draupadi said: 'Here they also cite an ancient story, the dialogue of Prahlada and Bali. Bali asked his grandfather Prahlada, the great knower of dharma: "Which is better — patience or strength? Tell me without doubt, and I will carry out your instruction." Prahlada answered: "Strength is not always better, nor is patience always better. This must be known for certain."'
