स तत्र ताम् उषित्वैकां रजनीं पृथिवीपतिः ॥
तापसानां परं चक्रे सत्कारं भ्रातृभिः सह ॥
लोमशश् चास्य तान् सर्वान् आचख्यौ तत्र तापसान् ॥
भृगून् अङ्गिरसश् चैव वासिष्ठान् अथ काश्यपान् ॥
तान् समेत्य स राजर्षिर् अभिवाद्य कृताञ्जलिः ॥
रामस्यानुचरं वीरम् अपृच्छद् अकृतव्रणम् ॥
कदा नु रामो भगवांस् तापसान् दर्शयिष्यति ॥
तेनैवाहं प्रसङ्गेन द्रष्टुम् इच्छामि भार्गवम् ॥
अकृतव्रण उवाच
आयान् एवासि विदितो रामस्य विदितात्मनः ॥
प्रीतिस् त्वयि च रामस्य क्षिप्रं त्वां दर्शयिष्यति ॥
चतुर्दशीम् अष्टमीं च रामं पश्यन्ति तापसाः ॥
अस्यां रात्र्यां व्यतीतायां भवित्री च चतुर्दशी ॥
युधिष्ठिर उवाच
भवान् अनुगतो वीरं जामदग्न्यं महाबलम् ॥
प्रत्यक्षदर्शी सर्वस्य पूर्ववृत्तस्य कर्मणः ॥
स भवान् कथयत्व् एतद् यथा रामेण निर्जिताः ॥
आहवे क्षत्रियाः सर्वे कथं केन च हेतुना ॥

bhavān anugato vīraṃ jāmadagnyaṃ mahābalam ||
pratyakṣadarśī sarvasya pūrvavṛttasya karmaṇaḥ ||
sa bhavān kathayatv etad yathā rāmeṇa nirjitāḥ ||
āhave kṣatriyāḥ sarve kathaṃ kena ca hetunā ||

Vaishampayana said: "Having spent one night there, the lord of the earth, together with his brothers, paid the highest honor to the ascetics. Lomasha showed him all these ascetics: the Bhrigus, the Angirasas, the Vasishthas, and the Kashyapas. Having met them, the royal sage bowed, folded his palms, and asked the hero Akritavrana, Rama's companion: 'When will the blessed Rama appear to the ascetics? Taking this occasion, I wish to see Bhargava.' Akritavrana said: 'You have come, and this is already known to Rama, who knows himself. Rama is pleased with you and will soon show himself to you. The ascetics see Rama on the fourteenth and eighth days; when this night has passed, it will be the fourteenth day.' Yudhishthira said: 'You followed the mighty hero Jamadagnya and saw with your own eyes all his past deeds. Tell me, then, how Rama defeated all the kshatriyas in battle, in what manner and for what reason.'"

Comentario

Yudhishthira approaches Parashurama not as a legend but through a witness. What matters to him is understanding the cause of the violence, not merely hearing of the hero's power.
