Then Chyavana Bhargava said to the king: 'I will accept this daughter of yours, endowed with beauty and nobility, but who acted under the power of greed and delusion. Then, king, I will forgive; truly I tell you this, lord of the earth.' Understanding the sage's word, Sharyati, without hesitation, gave his daughter to the great Chyavana. Having accepted the girl, Chyavana became gracious; having received his grace, the king returned together with his army. And Sukanya, faultless, having gained the ascetic as her husband, always served him with love, through tapas and strict discipline. Serving the sacred fires and guests, free from envy, the fair-faced one swiftly satisfied Chyavana.

The remedy here is a hard one: Sukanya becomes the wife of the very one she wounded. But the text emphasizes not compulsion into suffering, but her subsequent devotion, which turns her mistake into a path of service.
