Then, by the power of that sage's tapas, a kritya arose: a great asura named Mada, huge of body and of tremendous might, whose form neither gods nor asuras could describe. His mouth was terrible and vast, with sharp-edged teeth; one jaw rested upon the earth, the other reached into the sky. Four long fangs extended a hundred yojanas each, and his other teeth were ten yojanas long, resembling ramparts and spear-points in appearance. His arms, like mountains, stretched out ten thousand, equal in length; his eyes were like the sun and moon, his face like Death itself. He licked his mouth with a tongue as restless as lightning; with gaping jaws and a terrible gaze, he seemed to be devouring the world by force. Enraged, wishing to devour Shatakratu, he rushed at him in his vast and terrible form, making the worlds resound with his roar.
