विराट उवाच
शतं सहस्राणि समाहितानि; वर्णस्य वर्णस्य विनिश्चिता गुणैः ॥
पशून् सपालान् भवते ददाम्य् अहं; त्वदाश्रया मे पशवो भवन्त्व् इह ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
तथा स राज्ञो ऽविदितो विशां पते; उवास तत्रैव सुखं नरेश्वरः ॥
न चैनम् अन्ये ऽपि विदुः कथं चन; प्रादाच् च तस्मै भरणं यथेप्सितम् ॥
virāṭa uvāca
śataṃ sahasrāṇi samāhitāni; varṇasya varṇasya viniścitā guṇaiḥ ||
paśūn sapālān bhavate dadāmy ahaṃ; tvadāśrayā me paśavo bhavantv iha ||
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
tathā sa rājño 'vidito viśāṃ pate; uvāsa tatraiva sukhaṃ nareśvaraḥ ||
na cainam anye 'pi viduḥ kathaṃ cana; prādāc ca tasmai bharaṇaṃ yathepsitam ||
Virata said: 'A hundred thousand cows of each color, assembled and distinguished by their qualities, together with their herdsmen I give to you. Let my herds be under your protection here.' Vaishampayana said: 'Thus, unrecognized by the king, lord of peoples, he dwelt there happily, that lord of men, and no others recognized him either; and the king granted him the maintenance he desired.'
