Traducción

Then the swift, well-yoked horses sank down upon their knees to the ground, and Uttara, terrified, sank down onto the floor of the chariot. Kaunteya steadied the horses, gathered up the reins, embraced Uttara, and comforted him: 'Do not be afraid, foremost of princes -- you are a kshatriya, a terror to your foes. How is it, tiger among men, that you sink into despair in the midst of enemies? You have heard the sounds of conches, the many sounds of war-drums, and the trumpeting of elephants standing in arrayed armies. How then have you been frightened here by the sound of a single conch, sitting despondent and terrified like an ordinary man?' Uttara said: 'I have heard the sounds of conches and the many sounds of war-drums, and the trumpeting of elephants standing in arrayed armies. But never before have I heard a sound of a conch like this one. Nor have I ever before seen a banner of such a form; nor have I ever heard such a roar of a bow. At the sound of this conch, at the twang of the bow, and at the rumble of the chariot, my mind is thrown into utter confusion. All the directions are in turmoil, my heart seems to tremble; all directions are hidden by the banner and do not appear to me, and my ears are deafened by the sound of the Gandiva.' Arjuna said: 'Bring the chariot to a quiet spot and brace yourself with your feet; hold the reins firmly. I will blow the conch once more.' Vaishampayana said: 'At the sound of that conch, at the rumble of the chariot-wheels, and at the roar of the Gandiva, the earth trembled.'
