न तं समयम् आदृत्य राज्यम् इच्छति पैतृकम् ॥
बलम् आश्रित्य मत्स्यानां पाञ्चालानां च पार्थिवः ॥
दुर्योधनो भयाद् विद्वन् न दद्यात् पदम् अन्ततः ॥
धर्मतस् तु महीं कृत्स्नां प्रदद्याच् छत्रवे ऽपि च ॥
यदि काङ्क्षन्ति ते राज्यं पितृपैतामहं पुनः ॥
यथाप्रतिज्ञं कालं तं चरन्तु वनम् आश्रिताः ॥
ततो दुर्योधनस्याङ्के वर्तन्ताम् अकुतोभयाः ॥
अधार्मिकाम् इमां बुद्धिं कुर्युर् मौर्ख्याद् धि केवलम् ॥
अथ ते धर्मम् उत्सृज्य युद्धम् इच्छन्ति पाण्डवाः ॥
आसाद्येमान् कुरुश्रेष्ठान् स्मरिष्यन्ति वचो मम ॥
na taṃ samayam ādṛtya rājyam icchati paitṛkam ||
balam āśritya matsyānāṃ pāñcālānāṃ ca pārthivaḥ ||
duryodhano bhayād vidvan na dadyāt padam antataḥ ||
dharmatas tu mahīṃ kṛtsnāṃ pradadyāc chatrave 'pi ca ||
yadi kāṅkṣanti te rājyaṃ pitṛpaitāmahaṃ punaḥ ||
yathāpratijñaṃ kālaṃ taṃ carantu vanam āśritāḥ ||
tato duryodhanasyāṅke vartantām akutobhayāḥ ||
adhārmikām imāṃ buddhiṃ kuryur maurkhyād dhi kevalam ||
atha te dharmam utsṛjya yuddham icchanti pāṇḍavāḥ ||
āsādyemān kuruśreṣṭhān smariṣyanti vaco mama ||
In Duryodhana's name, Shakuni once won at dice. Yudhishthira, the son of Pandu, went to the forest in accordance with the agreement. Now, disregarding that agreement, and trusting in the support of the Matsyas and the Panchalas, he desires to reclaim his ancestral throne. O learned one, Duryodhana would not yield a single foot of land if you appealed to his fears, but should justice demand it, he would give up the whole earth even to an enemy. If they wish to reclaim the throne of their forefathers, let them pass the appointed time in the forest, as was agreed. After that, let them live under Duryodhana's protection, safe and secure.
