संभोजनं संकथनं संप्रश्नो ऽथ समागमः ॥
एतानि ज्ञातिकार्याणि न विरोधः कदा चन ॥
यस्मिन् काले सुमनसः सर्वे वृद्धान् उपासते ॥
सिंहगुप्तम् इवारण्यम् अप्रधृष्या भवन्ति ते ॥
ये ऽर्थं संततम् आसाद्य दीना इव समासते ॥
श्रियं ते संप्रयच्छन्ति द्विषद्भ्यो भरतर्षभ ॥
धूमायन्ते व्यपेतानि ज्वलन्ति सहितानि च ॥
धृतराष्ट्रोल्मुकानीव ज्ञातयो भरतर्षभ ॥
इदम् अन्यत् प्रवक्ष्यामि यथा दृष्टं गिरौ मया ॥
श्रुत्वा तद् अपि कौरव्य यथा श्रेयस् तथा कुरु ॥
saṃbhojanaṃ saṃkathanaṃ saṃpraśno 'tha samāgamaḥ ||
etāni jñātikāryāṇi na virodhaḥ kadā cana ||
yasmin kāle sumanasaḥ sarve vṛddhān upāsate ||
siṃhaguptam ivāraṇyam apradhṛṣyā bhavanti te ||
ye 'rthaṃ saṃtatam āsādya dīnā iva samāsate ||
śriyaṃ te saṃprayacchanti dviṣadbhyo bharatarṣabha ||
dhūmāyante vyapetāni jvalanti sahitāni ca ||
dhṛtarāṣṭrolmukānīva jñātayo bharatarṣabha ||
idam anyat pravakṣyāmi yathā dṛṣṭaṃ girau mayā ||
śrutvā tad api kauravya yathā śreyas tathā kuru ||
That other snake-mouthed shaft, which gleams in your quiver and which you honor with garlands of flowers, O Karna, when struck by the arrows of the son of Pandu, will perish along with you. O Karna, slayer of Vana and of Bhumi's son (Naraka), Vasudeva himself, who in the very thick of battle has slain foes equal to and even surpassing you, now guards Arjuna, adorned with his diadem.' Karna said: 'Without doubt, the chief of the Vrishnis is indeed such a one. Moreover, I acknowledge that this great-souled being is even greater...'
