"O mighty-armed one, shall I ever see Nakula again -- that powerful warrior on chariots, that tender youth, raised in luxury and undeserving of sorrow? Behold, O hero, that I am alive today -- even I, who might have found peace losing sight of Nakula for so brief a span as the blinking of an eye. Dearer to me than all my sons, O Janardana, is the daughter of Drupada. Nobly born and possessed of great beauty, she is endowed with every accomplishment. Truthful in speech, she chose the company of her lords, giving up the company of her own sons. Indeed, leaving her dear children behind, she follows the sons of Pandu. She who once was waited upon by a great retinue of servants, cherished by her husbands with every object of enjoyment, possessed of every auspicious mark and accomplishment -- how, O Achyuta, does Draupadi fare now? Having five heroic husbands, all destroyers of foes and all mighty archers, each equal to Agni in power, sorrow has still fallen to the lot of the daughter of Drupada. For fourteen long years, O scourge of foes, I have not seen the princess of Panchala, that daughter-in-law of mine who was herself the victim of ceaseless anxiety for her children, whom she had not seen throughout that time. When the daughter of Drupada, endowed with such character, does not enjoy unbroken happiness, it seems, O Govinda, that the happiness a person enjoys is never truly the fruit of their own actions. When I remember how Draupadi was dragged by force into the assembly, then neither Vibhatsu, nor Yudhishthira, nor Bhima, nor Nakula, nor Sahadeva remain objects of affection to me. Never before has any grief pierced my heart as heavily as when that wretched Duhshasana, driven by anger and greed, dragged Draupadi -- then in her courses and thus clad in a single garment -- into the presence of her father-in-law in the assembly, and exposed her to the gaze of all the Kurus. It is known that among those present, King Bahlika, Kripa, and Somadatta were pierced with grief at that sight, but of all who were present at that assembly, it is Vidura alone whom I revere. Neither learning nor wealth makes a person worthy of honor. Only through character does a person become worthy of respect, O Krishna -- the character of the illustrious Vidura, endowed with great intelligence and deep wisdom, like an ornament he wears, adorns the whole world." Vaishampayana continued: "Filled with joy at Govinda's arrival, yet overwhelmed with grief for her sons, Pritha gave voice to all her manifold sorrows. And she said: "Can gambling and the slaying of deer, which, O scourge of foes, occupied all the wicked kings of old, be a fitting pursuit for the Pandavas?" The thought, O Keshava, that when the sons of Dhritarashtra dragged him into the presence of all the Kurus in their assembly, insults worse than death were heaped upon Krishna, O scourge of foes, and the exile of my sons from their capital and their wanderings in the wilderness -- these and many other sorrows, O Janardana, have been mine."
