नामृष्यत यथा नागस् तलशब्दं समीरितम् ॥
ततः शरैर् महाराज रुक्मपुङ्खैः शिलाशितैः ॥
भीमं विव्याध संक्रुद्धस् त्रासयानो वरूथिनीम् ॥
तौ युध्यमानौ समरे भृशम् अन्योन्यविक्षतौ ॥
पुत्रौ ते देवसंकाशौ व्यरोचेतां महाबलौ ॥

putras tu tava tejasvī bhīmasenena tāḍitaḥ ||
nāmṛṣyata yathā nāgas talaśabdaṃ samīritam ||
tataḥ śarair mahārāja rukmapuṅkhaiḥ śilāśitaiḥ ||
bhīmaṃ vivyādha saṃkruddhas trāsayāno varūthinīm ||
tau yudhyamānau samare bhṛśam anyonyavikṣatau ||
putrau te devasaṃkāśau vyarocetāṃ mahābalau ||
And Duryodhana struck the great archer Bhimasena with ten gold-feathered, whetted arrows fletched with vulture feathers. Enraged, Bhimasena took up a firm, deadly, splendid bow and ten sharp arrows. Undisturbed, he swiftly struck the king of Kuru in the broad chest with sharp, swift, blazing arrows loosed from his very ear. The gem on his chest, encircled by the arrows and hung on a golden cord, shone like the sun surrounded by planets. Your radiant son, struck by Bhimasena, did not endure it, just as an elephant does not endure the sound of a struck palm. The duel between Bhima and Duryodhana again reminds us that their enmity is a family enmity: Sanjaya calls both of them sons, in the broad sense of the house of Kuru. The more brightly they shine in battle, the more tragic the ruin of the clan appears.
