सात्यकिः कृतवर्माणं विद्ध्वा पञ्चभिर् आयसैः ॥
अतिष्ठद् आहवे शूरः किरन् बाणान् सहस्रशः ॥
तथैव द्रुपदो राजा द्रोणं विद्ध्वा शितैः शरैः ॥
पुनर् विव्याध सप्तत्या सारथिं चास्य सप्तभिः ॥
भीमसेनस् तु राजानं बाह्लिकं प्रपितामहम् ॥
विद्ध्वानदन् महानादं शार्दूल इव कानने ॥
आर्जुनिश् चित्रसेनेन विद्धो बहुभिर् आशुगैः ॥
चित्रसेनं त्रिभिर् बाणैर् विव्याध हृदये भृशम् ॥
समागतौ तौ तु रणे महामात्रौ व्यरोचताम् ॥
यथा दिवि महाघोरौ राजन् बुधशनैश्चरौ ॥
तस्याश्वांश् चतुरो हत्वा सूतं च नवभिः शरैः ॥
ननाद बलवन् नादं सौभद्रः परवीरहा ॥
हताश्वात् तु रथात् तूर्णम् अवप्लुत्य महारथः ॥
आरुरोह रथं तूर्णं दुर्मुखस्य विशां पते ॥
द्रोणश् च द्रुपदं विद्ध्वा शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
सारथिं चास्य विव्याध त्वरमाणः पराक्रमी ॥
पीड्यमानस् ततो राजा द्रुपदो वाहिनीमुखे ॥
अपायाज् जवनैर् अश्वैः पूर्ववैरम् अनुस्मरन् ॥
भीमसेनस् तु राजानं मुहूर्ताद् इव बाह्लिकम् ॥
व्यश्वसूतरथं चक्रे सर्वसैन्यस्य पश्यतः ॥
ससंभ्रमो महाराज संशयं परमं गतः ॥
अवप्लुत्य ततो वाहाद् बाह्लिकः पुरुषोत्तमः ॥
आरुरोह रथं तूर्णं लक्ष्मणस्य महारथः ॥

nanāda balavan nādaṃ saubhadraḥ paravīrahā ||
hatāśvāt tu rathāt tūrṇam avaplutya mahārathaḥ ||
āruroha rathaṃ tūrṇaṃ durmukhasya viśāṃ pate ||
droṇaś ca drupadaṃ viddhvā śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ||
sārathiṃ cāsya vivyādha tvaramāṇaḥ parākramī ||
pīḍyamānas tato rājā drupado vāhinīmukhe ||
apāyāj javanair aśvaiḥ pūrvavairam anusmaran ||
bhīmasenas tu rājānaṃ muhūrtād iva bāhlikam ||
vyaśvasūtarathaṃ cakre sarvasainyasya paśyataḥ ||
sasaṃbhramo mahārāja saṃśayaṃ paramaṃ gataḥ ||
avaplutya tato vāhād bāhlikaḥ puruṣottamaḥ ||
āruroha rathaṃ tūrṇaṃ lakṣmaṇasya mahārathaḥ ||
Satyaki, having pierced Kritavarman with five iron shafts, stood as a hero in the fight, scattering arrows by the thousand. Likewise King Drupada, having wounded Drona with sharp arrows, pierced him again with seventy, and his charioteer with seven. Bhimasena, having pierced King Bahlika, the great-grandfather, let out a great roar, like a tiger in the forest. Arjuna's son, wounded by Chitrasena with many swift arrows, pierced Chitrasena deeply in the heart with three arrows. These two great warriors, having met in the battle, shone, O king, like Budha and Shanaishchara in the sky. Saubhadra, slayer of enemy heroes, having slain his four horses and his charioteer with nine arrows, let out a mighty roar. Then the great chariot-warrior Chitrasena leapt quickly from his horseless chariot and, O lord of the peoples, swiftly mounted the chariot of Durmukha. Drona, having pierced Drupada with arrows of bent joints, swiftly wounded his charioteer as well, valiant as he was. Hard pressed at the front of the army, King Drupada withdrew on swift horses, remembering their old enmity. Bhimasena, almost in an instant, before the eyes of the whole army, stripped King Bahlika of his horses, charioteer, and chariot. In confusion and utmost peril, O great king, Bahlika, the best of men, leapt down from his mount and swiftly climbed onto the chariot of the great chariot-warrior Lakshmana.
