युधिष्ठिर महाप्राज्ञ सर्वशास्त्रविशारद ॥
शृणु मे वचनं तात धर्म्यं स्वर्ग्यं च जल्पतः ॥
निर्विण्णो ऽस्मि भृशं तात देहेनानेन भारत ॥
घ्नतश् च मे गतः कालः सुबहून् प्राणिनो रणे ॥
तस्मात् पार्थं पुरोधाय पाञ्चालान् सृञ्जयांस् तथा ॥
मद्वधे क्रियतां यत्नो मम चेद् इच्छसि प्रियम् ॥

yudhiṣṭhira mahāprājña sarvaśāstraviśārada ||
śṛṇu me vacanaṃ tāta dharmyaṃ svargyaṃ ca jalpataḥ ||
nirviṇṇo 'smi bhṛśaṃ tāta dehenānena bhārata ||
ghnataś ca me gataḥ kālaḥ subahūn prāṇino raṇe ||
tasmāt pārthaṃ purodhāya pāñcālān sṛñjayāṃs tathā ||
madvadhe kriyatāṃ yatno mama ced icchasi priyam ||

तस्मात् पार्थम् पुरोधायtasmāt pārtham purodhāyatherefore, placing the Partha in front; hence putting Arjuna forward
पाञ्चालान् सृञ्जयान् तथाpāñcālān sṛñjayān tathāthe Panchalas and the Srinjayas as well; also the Panchalas together with the Srinjayas
मद्वधे क्रियताम् यत्नःmadvadhe kriyatām yatnaḥlet effort be made toward my death; strive for my slaying
मम चेत् इच्छसि प्रियम्mama cet icchasi priyamif you wish me well; if you desire good for me
Traducción

Bhishma said: "Yudhishthira, great sage, knower of all the shastras, hear my word, child, righteous and leading to heaven. O Bharata, I am deeply weary of this body: my time has passed in slaying multitudes of living beings on the battlefield. Therefore, if you wish me well, place the Partha, the Panchalas, and the Srinjayas in front, and make every effort toward my death."
