पाञ्चाल्यः परमास्त्रज्ञः शोणाश्वं समयोधयत् ॥
स सत्यजितम् आलक्ष्य तथोदीर्णं महाहवे ॥
अर्धचन्द्रेण चिच्छेद शिरस् तस्य महात्मनः ॥

Traducción
Thus, as his bows were shattered time after time, the Panchala prince, versed in the supreme astras, kept striking Drona on his red horses, without retreating. Noticing Satyajit so enraged in the great combat, he struck off his head, that great-souled one, with a half-moon arrow.

Satyajit fights to the last — his bows break "time after time," yet he takes up a new one and does not retreat, until a half-moon arrow strikes off his head. The telling crowns the fallen one with the words "great-souled": death in unyielding performance of duty does not diminish but exalts. It is notable that he, "versed in the supreme astras," could have resorted to something else, yet chose to stand to the end for the king entrusted to him. The verse teaches that there is a fidelity dearer than life itself, and that one who gives his life shielding another attains not defeat but a crown; that a warrior's dignity is measured not by whether he won, but by whether he stood to the end; and that the telling honors as "great-souled" precisely the one who fell without betraying his duty.
