धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
व्यथयेयुर् इमे सेनां देवानाम् अपि संयुगे ॥
आहवे ये न्यवर्तन्त वृकोदरमुखा रथाः ॥
संप्रयुक्तः किलैवायं दिष्टैर् भवति पूरुषः ॥
तस्मिन्न् एव तु सर्वार्था दृश्यन्ते वै पृथग्विधाः ॥

vyathayeyur ime senāṃ devānām api saṃyuge ||
āhave ye nyavartanta vṛkodaramukhā rathāḥ ||
saṃprayuktaḥ kilaivāyaṃ diṣṭair bhavati pūruṣaḥ ||
tasminn eva tu sarvārthā dṛśyante vai pṛthagvidhāḥ ||

Traducción

These chariot warriors, who turned to meet [the foe] with Vrikodara at their head, would strike with dread even the host of the gods in battle. For man is yoked to fate; and in it, indeed, are discerned all outcomes of every kind.
