यद्य् एतन् न रहस्यं ते वक्तुम् अर्हस्य् अरिंदम ॥
धैर्यस्य वैकृतं ब्रूहि त्वम् अद्य मधुसूदन ॥
समुद्रस्येव संक्षोभो मेरोर् इव विसर्पणम् ॥
तथैतल् लाघवं मन्ये तव कर्म जनार्दन ॥
yady etan na rahasyaṃ te vaktum arhasy ariṃdama ||
dhairyasya vaikṛtaṃ brūhi tvam adya madhusūdana ||
samudrasyeva saṃkṣobho meror iva visarpaṇam ||
tathaital lāghavaṃ manye tava karma janārdana ||
"That now tell me, being asked, the truth, O best of the truthful. If this is not your secret, it behooves you to speak, O tamer of foes. Tell [me] of this change in [your] steadiness now, O Madhusudana. Like the agitation of the ocean, like the shifting of [Mount] Meru -- thus I deem this [your] levity, your deed, O Janardana."

Arjuna compares the levity so unlike Krishna to the agitation of the ocean and the shifting of Meru: that which is unshakable suddenly wavers -- and this strikes hardest of all. It is significant that a departure from customary composure is itself news of something great. The verse teaches that a change in the unchanging speaks louder than words: when the immovable one shows agitation, the wise understand -- something has occurred that shakes the very foundations.
