न पिता न च मे माता न यूयं भ्रातरस् तथा ॥
न च प्राणास् तथा रक्ष्या यथा बीभत्सुर् आहवे ॥
त्रैलोक्यराज्याद् यत् किं चिद् भवेद् अन्यत् सुदुर्लभम् ॥
नेच्छेयं सात्वताहं तद् विना पार्थं धनंजयम् ॥
अतः प्रहर्षः सुमहान् युयुधानाद्य मे ऽभवत् ॥
मृतं प्रत्यागतम् इव दृष्ट्वा पार्थं धनंजयम् ॥
अतश् च प्रहितो युद्धे मया कर्णाय राक्षसः ॥
न ह्य् अन्यः समरे रात्रौ शक्तः कर्णं प्रबाधितुम् ॥

na ca prāṇās tathā rakṣyā yathā bībhatsur āhave ||
trailokyarājyād yat kiṃ cid bhaved anyat sudurlabham ||
neccheyaṃ sātvatāhaṃ tad vinā pārthaṃ dhanaṃjayam ||
ataḥ praharṣaḥ sumahān yuyudhānādya me 'bhavat ||
mṛtaṃ pratyāgatam iva dṛṣṭvā pārthaṃ dhanaṃjayam ||
ataś ca prahito yuddhe mayā karṇāya rākṣasaḥ ||
na hy anyaḥ samare rātrau śaktaḥ karṇaṃ prabādhitum ||
"Neither father, nor my mother, nor you, brothers, nor even life itself is so guarded as is Bibhatsu [Arjuna] in battle. If there be anything greater than the kingdom of the three worlds, anything else, however hard to attain -- I would not wish for it, O Satvata, without Partha Dhananjaya. Hence, O Yuyudhana, exceedingly great joy arose in me today -- as though seeing one returned from death -- on seeing Partha Dhananjaya. And it is for this that I sent the rakshasa into battle against Karna; for no one else could press Karna hard in battle by night."

Krishna shows the utmost measure of love: Arjuna is dearer than father, mother, brothers, dearer than life itself, dearer than the kingdom of the three worlds. It is telling that the Lord, who lacks nothing, counts everything as nothing without His friend. The verse teaches that supreme love knows neither measure nor calculation: it places the beloved above every good and above oneself; and in this boundless devotion of Krishna to Arjuna is shown the very form of the love that binds God to His devotee.
