Kichaka, adorned just as he wished, came at the appointed time to the dancing hall, hoping for a meeting with Panchali. Thinking it the agreed place, he entered that great house, wrapped in darkness. Entering, evil in mind, he approached Bhima, unequaled in might, who had come earlier and sat there alone. The son of a suta touched, lying there on the couch, his own death, blazing with the wrath born of the outrage against Krishna. Approaching him, Kichaka, blinded by desire, his mind stirred by joy, said with a smile: 'I have brought you wealth of many kinds, without end. All of it is for you; I came at once. Not without cause do the women of the house always praise me: I am well dressed and handsome, and there is no other man like me for you.' Bhimasena said: 'Fortunately, you are handsome. Fortunately, you praise yourself. But such a touch as yours, no one has ever before experienced.' Having said this, the mighty-armed Bhima, terrible in valor, the Kaunteya, sprang up, laughed at the base man, and seized him by his hair, adorned with garlands and fragrance.

Bhima's irony is terrible: Kichaka came for a tryst of love but touched death instead. His self-praise becomes the last word of his pride.
