धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
किम् असौ पाण्डवो राजा धर्मपुत्रो ऽभ्यभाषत ॥
श्रुत्वेमा बहुलाः सेनाः प्रत्यर्थेन समागताः ॥
किम् इच्छत्य् अभिसंरम्भाद् योत्स्यमानो युधिष्ठिरः ॥
कस्य स्विद् भ्रातृपुत्राणां चिन्तासु मुखम् ईक्षते ॥
के स्विद् एनं वारयन्ति शाम्य युध्येति वा पुनः ॥
निकृत्या कोपितं मन्दैर् धर्मज्ञं धर्मचारिणम् ॥
संजय उवाच
राज्ञो मुखम् उदीक्षन्ते पाञ्चालाः पाण्डवैः सह ॥
युधिष्ठिरस्य भद्रं ते स सर्वान् अनुशास्ति च ॥
पृथग्भूताः पाण्डवानां पाञ्चालानां रथव्रजाः ॥
आयान्तम् अभिनन्दन्ति कुन्तीपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् ॥

śrutvemā bahulāḥ senāḥ pratyarthena samāgatāḥ ||

kasya svid bhrātṛputrāṇāṃ cintāsu mukham īkṣate ||
ke svid enaṃ vārayanti śāmya yudhyeti vā punaḥ ||
nikṛtyā kopitaṃ mandair dharmajñaṃ dharmacāriṇam ||
saṃjaya uvāca
rājño mukham udīkṣante pāñcālāḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ saha ||
yudhiṣṭhirasya bhadraṃ te sa sarvān anuśāsti ca ||
pṛthagbhūtāḥ pāṇḍavānāṃ pāñcālānāṃ rathavrajāḥ ||
āyāntam abhinandanti kuntīputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram ||
Vaishampayana said: "In the midst of all the assembled kings, O Bharata, Bhishma, son of Shantanu, then spoke these words to Duryodhana: 'Once Brihaspati and Shakra went to Brahma. The Maruts too, with Indra, the Vasus with Agni, the Adityas, the Sadhyas, the seven celestial Rishis, the Gandharvas, Vishvavasu, and, having bowed to the Lord of the Universe, all the dwellers of heaven sat down around him. At that moment the two ancient deities, the sages Nara and Narayana, as though drawing to themselves the minds and energies of all who were present, left that place, and Brihaspati asked Brahma, saying: "Who are these two who are leaving this place without bowing to you?"'"
