Translation

Karna said: 'It is not fitting, O blessed grandsire, that you should use such words toward me, since I have taken upon myself the duties of the order of kshatriyas, without departing from my own. Moreover, what evil is there in me? I have no sin known to anyone among the people of Dhritarashtra. I have never done any harm to the son of Dhritarashtra; on the contrary, I shall slay all the Pandavas in battle. How could they accomplish this?' Is it wise to make peace once more with those who were wounded before? My duty is ever to do whatever pleases King Dhritarashtra, and especially Duryodhana, since he holds the kingdom.' Vaishampayana continued: 'Having heard these words of Karna, Bhishma, son of Shantanu, addressing King Dhritarashtra, again said: Though this man often boasts, saying, "I shall slay the Pandavas," still he is not equal even to a sixteenth part of the great-souled Pandavas.'
