Those learned in the scriptures declare, O Janardana, that sin is incurred by killing one who does not deserve to be killed. In the same way, it is an equal sin not to kill one who deserves to be killed. Therefore act, O Krishna, together with the forces of the Pandavas and the Srinjayas, so that sin may not touch you. Out of my excessive trust in you, O Janardana, I shall repeat what has been said again and again. Is there on this earth a woman like me, O Keshava? I am the daughter of King Drupada, who rose up from the sacrificial altar. I am the sister of Dhrishtadyumna, your dear friend, O Krishna. Having married, I became a woman of the Ajamida line, the daughter-in-law of the illustrious Pandu. I am the queen of the sons of Pandu, who in splendor resemble the five Indras. From these five heroes I have five sons, all of whom are mighty chariot-warriors and are bound to you, O Krishna, in spirit, just as Abhimanyu himself is. Being such, O Krishna, I was seized by the hair, dragged into the assembly, and insulted before the eyes of the sons of Pandu, and in your own lifetime. O Keshava, while the sons of Pandu, the Panchalas, and the Vrishnis were alive, I was displayed before the whole gathering, and those sinful wretches treated me like a slave.

This passage (5.82.11-15) develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort for peace unfolds already against the backdrop of an inevitable war. Dharma reveals itself here through speech, through the choice of an embassy, through fidelity to one's word, and through the kings' responsibility for the consequences of their decisions.
