Translation

‘I know the eternal heart of the kshatriya, spoken of by the ancients and those still more ancient, and by later ones and those still later. Whatever kshatriya, knowing the dharma of the kshatriya, is born into this world, he must bow before no one out of fear or for the sake of livelihood. Let him rise up rather than bow down: effort itself is manly courage. Better that he break somewhere other than at the joint, but let him bow before no one here. Let the great-souled man move about like a maddened elephant; let him always bow before brahmins and before dharma alone, O Sanjaya. Restraining the other varnas, striking down all evildoers, whether with allies or without allies — such must he remain as long as he lives.’
