क्षीरोदस्य समुद्रस्य तथैवोत्तरतः प्रभुः ॥
हरिर् वसति वैकुण्ठः शकटे कनकात्मके ॥
अष्टचक्रं हि तद् यानं भूतयुक्तं मनोजवम् ॥
अग्निवर्णं महावेगं जाम्बूनदपरिष्कृतम् ॥
स प्रभुः सर्वभूतानां विभुश् च भरतर्षभ ॥
संक्षेपो विस्तरश् चैव कर्ता कारयिता च सः ॥
पृथिव्य् आपस् तथाकाशं वायुस् तेजश् च पार्थिव ॥
स यज्ञः सर्वभूतानाम् आस्यं तस्य हुताशनः ॥

sa yajñaḥ sarvabhūtānām āsyaṃ tasya hutāśanaḥ ||
To the north of the Ocean of Milk dwells Lord Hari, Vaikuntha, in a golden chariot. This chariot has eight wheels, is yoked with living forces, is swift as thought, of fiery radiance, of great speed, and adorned with jambunada gold. He, O best of the Bharatas, is the Lord of all beings and the all-pervading Master. He is contraction and expansion, the doer and the instigator of action. O descendant of Prithu, He is earth, water, space, wind, and fire; He is the sacrifice of all beings, and the sacrificial fire is His mouth.

Here the cosmography arrives at its theological center: beyond the regions, mountains, and oceans dwells Hari-Vaikuntha. The world is not self-sufficient: the elements, sacrifice, action, expansion, and contraction all have their ground in the Lord, so that the visible order of the universe should lead the mind back to remembrance of Him.
