संजय उवाच
उत्तरेषु तु कौरव्य द्वीपेषु श्रूयते कथा ॥
यथाश्रुतं महाराज ब्रुवतस् तन् निबोध मे ॥
घृततोयः समुद्रो ऽत्र दधिमण्डोदको ऽपरः ॥
सुरोदः सागरश् चैव तथान्यो घर्मसागरः ॥
परस्परेण द्विगुणाः सर्वे द्वीपा नराधिप ॥
सर्वतश् च महाराज पर्वतैः परिवारिताः ॥
गौरस् तु मध्यमे द्वीपे गिरिर् मानःशिलो महान् ॥
पर्वतः पश्चिमः कृष्णो नारायणनिभो नृप ॥
तत्र रत्नानि दिव्यानि स्वयं रक्षति केशवः ॥
प्रजापतिम् उपासीनः प्रजानां विदधे सुखम् ॥
कुशद्वीपे कुशस्तम्बो मध्ये जनपदस्य ह ॥
संपूज्यते शल्मलिश् च द्वीपे शाल्मलिके नृप ॥
क्रौञ्चद्वीपे महाक्रौञ्चो गिरी रत्नचयाकरः ॥
संपूज्यते महाराज चातुर्वर्ण्येन नित्यदा ॥
गोमन्दः पर्वतो राजन् सुमहान् सर्वधातुमान् ॥
यत्र नित्यं निवसति श्रीमान् कमललोचनः ॥
मोक्षिभिः संस्तुतो नित्यं प्रभुर् नारायणो हरिः ॥

yathāśrutaṃ mahārāja bruvatas tan nibodha me ||
ghṛtatoyaḥ samudro 'tra dadhimaṇḍodako 'paraḥ ||
surodaḥ sāgaraś caiva tathānyo gharmasāgaraḥ ||
paraspareṇa dviguṇāḥ sarve dvīpā narādhipa ||
sarvataś ca mahārāja parvataiḥ parivāritāḥ ||
gauras tu madhyame dvīpe girir mānaḥśilo mahān ||
parvataḥ paścimaḥ kṛṣṇo nārāyaṇanibho nṛpa ||
tatra ratnāni divyāni svayaṃ rakṣati keśavaḥ ||
prajāpatim upāsīnaḥ prajānāṃ vidadhe sukham ||
kuśadvīpe kuśastambo madhye janapadasya ha ||
saṃpūjyate śalmaliś ca dvīpe śālmalike nṛpa ||
krauñcadvīpe mahākrauñco girī ratnacayākaraḥ ||
saṃpūjyate mahārāja cāturvarṇyena nityadā ||
gomandaḥ parvato rājan sumahān sarvadhātumān ||
yatra nityaṃ nivasati śrīmān kamalalocanaḥ ||
mokṣibhiḥ saṃstuto nityaṃ prabhur nārāyaṇo hariḥ ||
Sanjaya said: 'O Kaurava, such a tale is told of the northern dvīpas; hear from me, O great king, what I recount as I have heard it. Here there is an ocean of waters made of clarified butter, another of the whey of curds, an ocean of wine, and yet another — an ocean of hot water. All the dvīpas, O lord of men, are each twice the size of the one before, and are surrounded on every side by mountains. On the middle island stands the great, bright mountain Manahshila; in the west stands a dark mountain resembling Narayana, O king. There Keshava himself guards the divine jewels; worshipping Prajapati, He established happiness for all beings. In Kushadvipa, in the center of the land, a tuft of kusha grass is honored; on the island of Shalmali, O king, the shalmali tree is honored. In Krauncadvipa, O great king, the great mountain Kraunca, a source of gem deposits, is always honored by the four varnas. O king, there is the great mountain Gomanda, rich in every mineral; there the glorious, lotus-eyed Lord Narayana Hari ever dwells, forever praised by the liberated.'
