Translation

Shri Bhagavan said: "You grieve for those who should not be grieved for, and yet you speak words of wisdom. But the wise mourn neither the dead nor the living. Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor these rulers of men; nor shall there ever come a time hereafter when we shall cease to be. As the embodied one passes, within this body, through childhood, youth, and old age, so too does he pass into another body; the wise one is not bewildered by this. The contacts of the senses, O son of Kunti, give rise to cold and heat, pleasure and pain; they come and go, and are impermanent. Endure them, O Bharata. That steadfast man, O best of men, whom these do not trouble, who is the same in pleasure and pain, becomes fit for immortality. Of the unreal there is no enduring being, and of the real there is no ceasing to be; the seers of truth have perceived the boundary of both. Know that to be indestructible by which all this is pervaded: no one can destroy this imperishable. These bodies are said to have an end, but the one who dwells within them is eternal, indestructible, and immeasurable. Therefore fight, O Bharata."
